If Iran gets cash via any mechanism that requires US blessing, that'll finish the Republicans for 2026 and 2028.

What are they thinking?

I usually agree with you but you couldn’t be more wrong. First, get some perspective. Reagan took out half of Iran’s navy and we barely heard from them for 20 years. Second, I don’t live in a perfect world. I think Trump looked at the various trade offs and said we crushed them militarily, proved the ineffective their Chinese and Russian defense capabilities were, and demonstrated that we can return anytime and bomb them at will. I think regime change is really up to the Iranian people. We lost 13 members of the military, the same as in Afghanistan in the shambolic Biden withdrawal. How many of our soldiers would have died in even a minimal incursion.

Also, for most of the country $4 dollar and some change was the maximum gas price which is similar to many of the Obama years when $4 was real money.

Basically, we are giving them access to our their own money. Plus the bullshit about costing 26 billion dollars in nonsense. Those soldiers and ships are fixed assets. They are going to be somewhere. The biggest incremental expense is combat pay and ammo.

Please, get a grip.

There's also the added fact that the upcoming signing is a MOU, not a final arrangement.

Exactly. And all of this was accomplished in 100 days not 20 years. Not trillions of dollars. Victory on the cheap. Almost as good as HW Bush getting the Arabs to pay for the first desert storm.

"we are giving them access to their own money"

Indeed, we are allowing the enemy to access its resources and strengthen itself. That's never a good policy in war. This is not a commercial dispute overt who is the rightful owner.

I Don’t disagree with you. I would want to better understand the conditions attached to the disbursement of funds. It seems much of the money is coming from other Arab states. I would assume they view strict conditions on their disbursement of fund to be in their best interest. After all they were the ones that suffered from being bombed by Iran.

"It seems much of the money is coming from other Arab states."

This was called a protection racket in The Godfather movie and that still seems a valid description.

How to invest $300B in your best interests? There's Silicon Valley, S&P 500s, gold, high-tech venture funds ... and then there's this theocracy in Iran where the IRGC already controls 40% of the economy. Difficult choice?

Hey you’re not going to get an argument from me. If it were up to me I would have bombed them back to the Stone Age. But I think the interrelationships between the parties is complicated. Each party has vested interest in getting commerce back on track.

Somewhere in early April, Trump lost the signal. What's transpired since is just as Christian commented. Snatching defeat from the Jaws of victory. I have a bad feeling about Friday.

It's not just Iranians who hate the US's guts. It's practically every other country in the world, especially since the Zionist project to back the genocide in Gaza and continued brown people bombing in Lebanon or starvation of Cuban children to give just a few examples, never mind the historic interventions in Vietnam, Afghanistan etc. etc.
